Ready for my close-up!

My working life tends to swing from one thing to another – sometimes gently, sometimes pretty violently. Since I finished my Iolaire animation (which was recently nominated for a Royal Television Society Scotland award), I have found myself swinging pretty fast towards YouTube.

E-Sgoil made this really nice little film of me talking about working as an animator and in the creative industries more generally, and watching it back, the extent of my experience surprises me. It will be used as part of their online learning programme for schools, along with another film about the methods I use to make my animation.

Meanwhile, I have started my own Gaelic YouTube channel, where I upload a new vlog every weekend on a different topic. So far I’ve covered cinema, glamping, Gaelic and  gardens, and I’ve got one up my sleeve for this weekend about lino printmaking. I’ve really loved doing it – learning a whole lot about mini-programme making, both on camera and off. Here’s one where I explain why I do it, despite my doubts about the quality of my Gaelic (you can turn on the English subtitles if your Gaelic isn’t up to it):
